Have you heard? Blogs are back. They’re, like, a total THING again, in this age of creepy social-media social engineering experiments and political interference. Don’t just take my word for it, though. But since this practice seems to be making a resurgence, I realized that once again I’ve neglected my own communication platform here in favor of the spaces where people still gather, probably mostly out of habit and familiarity. Back in the early 2010s I used to draft missives on my own blogs pretty regularly. Aside from my best friend, I’m not sure anyone ever read them - or even knew they existed. A few years ago I pretty much abandoned those sites, but I was motivated recently to see if they were still active or if they’d been purged from the internet. Surprise! They were still there. It took some effort to successfully log in, since I’d long since forgotten which email account they were connected to, and forget about trying to conjure up some ancient password I changed somewhere along the way. But I was able to do it. And woooo, is it…something. What an eye-opening trip down a weird memory lane. On the one hand, I’m not sure I’m even the same person now that I was when I drafted the first post on my original blog. And yet, I am TOTALLY THAT PERSON, sometimes. And the world, as a whole? Nothing’s changed. I mean, one of my early 2010-era posts is titled “Where's my socialist healthcare, bitches?!” How in the everloving suchandsuch have we not fixed that yet? It’s 2020! I was promised a jet-pack at the very least? Stop reinventing subways, Elon, and get on that House of the Future robot butler! So, in the spirit of the present being the future I always read about and could only imagine I’d be living in some day, I think I’ll resurrect the blog, in place of the defunct newsletter. And we’ll see how that goes. Since I’m currently 0 for 7 on the art event submission front, it looks like I’ll probably have plenty of free time to get some writing in.
